Winter 2027 Series Bulletin

Memo from the Competition Director

Championship Points System

It's been noted that the points system as originally proposed may unfairly benefit or penalize drivers that find themselves in the larger or smaller group on the split group event nights. This bulletin provides notice of an updated points system to address this issue. The new points system contains changes in these areas:

  1. Base points payouts are balanced between groups with differing sizes in split-group events.
  2. Drivers must beat at least one other competitor to qualify for a podium bonus.
  3. Field size bonus balances the points payouts across the various field sizes.
  4. One drop for each class, but all finishes are considered when breaking ties.

Competitors are encouraged to review the change in the Series Regulations. Points are covered in §5.

How points work in the two-class season

You score points in every race, in the class you’re driving that race. Your score for a race is built from four pieces.

  1. Beating people. The more of your class you finish ahead of, the more you earn. The top amount, for beating everyone in your class, is 10 points times the average class size minus one. On a split night, the average class size is half the drivers that night. On a night with 7 drivers, the classes are 4 and 3, so the average is 3.5 and the top amount is 25. Beat half your class and you get half of it. This means the winner of each class earns the same, even when one class has one more car in it.

  2. Podium bonus. First gets 15, second 10 and third 5. You only get it if you beat at least one car, so there’s no bonus for finishing last in a small class.

  3. Starting. You get 10 points for starting the race, even if you don’t finish. A driver who retires counts as a starter and ranks behind everyone who finished. A driver who doesn’t start (DNS) scores nothing and doesn’t count as a starter.

  4. Field-size bonus (split nights only). On a split night, you only race half the field for points, but you share the track with all of it. So every starter gets 1.25 points for each driver in the night’s field, per race, rounded. That’s 9 points a race for 7 drivers, 13 for 10, and 20 for 16. It’s the same for everyone on the night, so it never changes who beat whom. Nights with 6 or fewer drivers are single class and get no bonus, since everyone is already racing everyone.

Pole position and fastest lap are worth 5 points each, but are only handed to the fastest driver overall in qualifying and the race.
