DDRS MX-5 Cup Championship Series

Driving Standards

Drivers in the DDRS are expected to treat others with respect. Rubbing is racing, but punting, push to pass, and other position changing contact is not. Competitors may not advance their position as a result of contact regardless of who caused the contact. If that means you have to stop and wait for someone to resume racing, that's what you'll have to do. Own your mistakes, forgive others for theirs, and remember: it's just a video game FFS.

Eligible Cars

Series is limited to the Mazda Roadster NR-A (ND) '22. This car is available from the new car dealer, for a very modest sum.

Tuning

The cars are driven in STOCK trim, with the following exceptions:

  1. Transmission may be changed to the fully customizable racing transmission. When equipped, this transmission must be geared using the default gear ratios.
  2. The spec tire for the series is Sport Hard.
  3. No other modifications are permitted. This includes wheel rims, rim diameter, wheel offset, and so forth.
  4. Minimum vehicle weight is 2227lbs (1010kg).
  5. Maximum horse power is 130hp (97kW).

Livery

The cars must comply with the real-world 2023 Mazda MX-5 Cup livery requirements. A base livery has been shared by itc42 and is available from his gallery. Please note:

  1. There are number balls on all the front, sides, and rear; your car's number must appear in each of these balls. The number must be black, and must be rendered using any of Helvetica, Arial, or the livery editor's stock font.
  2. The stickers within the base theme must appear on top of whatever other graphics you choose to place on the car. In other words, you may paint the car however you wish, but all the base livery stickers/decals must be visible.
  3. Your livery may represent real or imagined products or sponsors. Your livery may not violate DDRS community standards.

Series Format

Each race meeting will consist of the following:

  • A single 10 minute qualifying session to set the grid for the first race.
  • Two timed races, each race will be 40 minutes long.
  • The grid for race #1 will be determined by the qualifying times.
  • The grid for race #2 will be determined by finishing position from race #1.
  • Tire wear: x1
  • Fuel consumption: x1

Series Specific Rules

Starts

To mimic the real series, all DDRS races will have rolling starts. Gran Turismo's rolling starts simulate a single-file restart, not a true 2-by-2 rolling start. Even though the actual MX-5 Cup Series uses rolling starts, this series will use Gran Turismo's standing starts.

Full Course Yellow

When a Full Course Yellow (FCY) is declared, all competitors should stop racing, maintain their track position, form a single file, and reduce speed to between 45 and 55 mph (70-85kph). An FCY condition is declared by uttering the exact phrase "Yellow, Yellow, Yellow." The leader assumes the role of the pace car. All competitors will form up on the leader and circulate at the pace established by the leader. Once the entire field has formed up on the leader/pace car, the driver in last position shall have responsibility for declaring the restart.Competitors must maintain the pace established by the leader until a restart has been declared at which point racing may be resumed. The restart is declared when the phrase "Go, Go, Go" is uttered.

FCYs may be called when two or more competitors are involved in a single incident. FCYs should not be called for single car incidents. In other words, if you take yourself out, sucks to be you. If you get taken out, you deserve a second chance. At least one full lap of green flag racing must be completed between successive FCY requests. FCY requests may not be made in the last 3 minutes (timed races), or the final lap (lap races) of the race.

Points

Points will be awarded based on the same scale as is used in the Mazda MX-5 Cup series:

Miscellaneous

  • Reigning DDRS MX-5 Cup Series Champion shall carry 600kg reward ballast for the qualifying session and first race of the of the next season's first event.
